What do you say about a designer as exemplary as Gaurav Gupta that hasn’t been said already? He is, after all, one of our country’s most celebrated designers, one who has amassed legions of fans not just in India but across the world. Every major red carpet worth talking about has one too many Gaurav Gupta looks being adorned by celebrities. And each of those looks get discussed, dissected and distinguished in great detail.
If all the world’s a stage, it’s always a Gaurav Gupta creation at the centre of the action.
But Gaurav Gupta ain’t one to rest on his laurels – he's forever on the move both in terms of creations as well as business.
Case in point, his first-ever menswear flagship that’s recently opened up in DLF Emporio, New Delhi. Or as he puts it, “the Gaurav Gupta Man finally has a space that reflects his evolution”. We caught up with him to get all the details on this new space, menswear in India and what’s next for him.

Talk to us about this new menswear flagship. What prompted you to launch it at this juncture of your career?
Menswear has been a very organic journey for me. It began in 2017 almost instinctively, but over the years it has grown into a distinct universe with its own audience, language, and energy. At this point in my career, it felt important to give menswear permanence. The flagship is not about expansion alone, it is about clarity. It marks a moment where the Gaurav Gupta Man finally has a space that reflects his evolution and his future.
What would you like people to experience when they walk into the flagship? What do you think makes it stand out the most?
I would like them to slow down. The space is designed to unfold gradually, to invite curiosity rather than immediacy. What makes it stand out is the relationship between architecture and movement. It does not behave like a conventional store. It feels closer to a gallery, where garments are encountered as objects of design rather than products. I hope people leave feeling calmer, more present, and more connected to themselves.

Menswear is having a moment like never before across the world. What do you expect is going to be the next pivot for men’s clothing, particularly in India?
I believe the next pivot will be emotional dressing. Men will move away from dressing for occasion or status and toward dressing for expression and comfort. In India especially, there is a rediscovery of fluidity, softness, and ornamentation that has always existed in our culture. The future of Indian menswear lies in embracing that heritage while reinterpreting it for modern life.
Are Indian men now getting more experimental with their clothing choices? If yes, what’s the one thing you’d like them to try, if they aren’t already?
Absolutely. Indian men today are far more confident and curious. I would love for them to explore drape. Draping allows the body to move naturally and creates a very quiet kind of elegance. It is something deeply rooted in our history, yet it feels incredibly contemporary when worn with intention.

What makes a Gaurav Gupta man? And what sets him apart from everyone else?
The Gaurav Gupta Man is emotionally intelligent, intuitive, and comfortable with softness. He understands that strength does not come from rigidity, but from presence. He dresses with intention rather than excess, and chooses garments that reflect how he feels rather than how he is expected to appear. What sets him apart is quiet confidence.
Lastly, what next can we expect from Gaurav Gupta?
I am deeply interested in expanding the idea of experience. Beyond collections, I want to continue building worlds where fashion, architecture, movement, and emotion intersect. Menswear will continue to evolve, and we will also explore new categories and collaborations that allow the brand to speak to a wider, more global audience while staying rooted in our philosophy.
