Nike Vegam Run: Nike's Newest Drops Were Made With The Indian Runner In Mind

Just last year, Nike launched its first-ever collaboration with an Indian label when it worked with NorBlack NorWhite (remember this?). Now, the sportswear giant takes its tryst with India one step further with a drop that is actually meant for its Indian customers: the Vegam Run, the brand's first running shoe designed specifically for Indian runners, launching on November 1 at just ₹3,795.

Here’s what’s in it for you.

Let’s start with the name. Vegam is the Tamil word for speed. For their new running shoes, Nike worked with Indian runners and athletes to design a pair that fit the needs and conditions of Indian runners. And use the words 'runners' and 'athlete' generously here. A little side note in the official press release says, “If you have a body, you are an athlete." This is great news, because this pair was made not only for running marathons but also for the versatility needed to reach the marathon if you’re in India. Get what I’m saying?

All of this means that the new Nike Vegam Run is made for daily miles, frequent use and everything that comes before, during and after the run. Let’s be honest, unless you are really particular about how you take care of things, an average running shoe is often expected to do more than accompany a training session. It needs to be comfortable through a long day, breathable in changing conditions and durable enough for frequent wear.

While its consumer base might be wide, Nike went all in with bringing actual Indian athletes on board as consultants for this drop. Nike claims that Vegam Run's development involved conversations with Indian runners about their training habits and everyday lives. These insights helped shape a shoe intended to accommodate the demands of running without restricting its use to the sport itself. Deepa Ramprasad, Sr. Director of Nike Road Running Footwear, has said of this launch, “Our ambition with the Vegam Run was simple: honour the voice of the runner in India and build what they need. The result is a shoe that brings Nike Running, cushioning, comfort and versatility to more athletes while reflecting our long-term commitment to growing sport in India.”

The design brings together an engineered mesh upper, a full-length foam midsole and a textured rubber outsole. The mesh construction is lightweight and gives you extra breathability, while the foam cushioning provides comfort underfoot. Rubber around the perimeter of the outsole adds to the shoe’s durability, and pull tabs make the shoe easier to put on and remove.

This entire design was conceptualised in 55 days, with Nike spending some five months from concept to launch.

As of now, there are two colourways available: the hyper pink kicks with silver metallic accents and the lemon venom with black-wolf grey accents. Beyond that, for the company’s upcoming After Dark tour in Mumbai this December, there is also an After Dark tour colourway. 

The Nike Vegam Run will go live in India from November 1 through Flipkart and select retail locations, priced at ₹3,795. Wider distribution through Nike's Indian retail partners is planned for spring 2027. International markets can get their hands on them later next year.
