How Mozez Singh’s Bond With Lord Shiva Took Artistic Form

THIS ONE IS SPECIAL. IT’S A BIRTHDAY gift given to me my best friend, Hanut Singh. Everyone who is close to me knows what a firm and ardent believer of Lord Shiva I am. Having been raised in the Sikh faith, the magnificent and awe-inspiring discovery of Lord Shiva happened [later] in the journey of my life.

As I got to know and understand him on a deeper level, and realised that unravelling the powers and the mysteries of this god would actually take me a lifetime and then some, I grew to be even more magnetised by his aura, and more committed in my devotion to him and my deciphering of him. He is the eternal master, mentor, teacher and friend. He is Life.

For my birthday Hanut commissioned the celebrated mixed media artist, Juano Diaz— who lives in Scotland and does extraordinary work from there—to create this Shiva artwork. They decided to do something unique and original, and something different from the limitless Shiva imagery there is out there in the world and that continues to be created in the timeless unfurling of life. There was only one sacrosanct and unmovable brief—the piece should be personal.

Inspired from the concept of Ardhanareeshwara (the androgynous representation of Shiva and Parvati), and yet entirely its own thing, Juano merged half an image of mine with a stunningly half painted illustration of Shiva, that conveyed many things at the same time—that I dissolve into the Lord and most essentially, that the Divine lives within us.

Every time I look at it, which is daily—as it is right by the entrance of my home and cannot be missed—I feel protected and at peace. For me, it is a timeless piece that will stay with me till the end of days, so that I never forget that whatever good or bad may happen. In life, God is my witness, and therefore Truth is the only option. Shiva is truth.
