Menswear Trends From India Couture Week You Just Can't Miss

Just in time for the upcoming wedding season

It’s not all over, yes, but it’s certainly time to take note of what’s been the most talked about!

The currently ongoing India Couture Week is in its final leg – it wraps up on July 30th with JJ Valaya’s grand finale show – and it’s been quite a fashion fiesta, might we add. Celebrity showstoppers isn’t the only thing one has been talking about. They’re getting the limelight because, well, no one thought they won’t, but they’re not the only ones doing so. Couture has well and truly taken over all conversations (as it should) and each designer has put up a solid show. Everyone has their favourites, of course, but this isn’t about that.

This is about what truly matters. We’re here to dissect (and digest) the menswear trends that have come out of India Couture Week. How should you be dressing and adapting these trends in your looks. With the wedding season not too far away, it’s right on time anyway. So, let’s get to it, shall we?

Menswear Trends From India Couture Week

Bling is King

Sequined trousers, shirts, jackets and bandhgalas were everywhere. Shantnu & Nikhil had them and so did Falguni and Shane Peacock. Even Amit Aggarwal chose the bling route for a few of his looks. The style memo certainly suggests bringing the party to what you wear, and letting your look shine and sparkle louder than ever. Our personal preference would be to layer your look with a sequined jacket on top.

Crop your jackets

The new length for jackets isn’t anything like you’ve been wearing them all this while. Crop them at the hem and ensure they only reach your pelvic, at the max. Anything longer is no longer in style. Whether you’re headed for a cocktail evening or just in the mood to dance the night away, let your jacket keep it short and stylish.

Floral is all over

Florals for spring might definitely not be ground-breaking but at India Couture Week, floral print has been breaking new fashion ground in almost every show. From Rohit Bal bandhgalas to Tarun Tahiliani kurtas, it’s everywhere. As it should be for your wardrobe too. Now how much floral is too much of it is something you can decide for yourself.

Blush pink for men

Yes, white, black, grey and blue definitely dominated the runway when it comes to menswear, as did white, ivory and gold. But aside from these quite-expected shades, a soft shade of blush pink also found its way into menswear. And how lovely is that, right? Why should archaic notions of machismo deprive men of this most wonderful of colours? Go on, blush a bit.

All white is always right

If it works for Akshay Kumar, it certainly shall work for you. When the actor sashayed down the runway for Falguni and Shane Peacock, everyone gasped in awe at his pristine white look. Ditto for Rohit Bal’s show where a whole set of white-only looks took place of pride. Sometimes, it’s best to keep colours at bay and opt for one that’s too pure to ignore.
