Have You Tried Snail Mucin For Your Skin?
7 moisturisers with snail mucin that'll change the way your skin looks and feels!
As someone who writes about skincare for a living, it’s hard for me to feign excitement about any ‘trend’ or ‘product’ out in the market. You’d have to do something truly outrageous to make me want to take a second look and try something – and snail mucin was just that!
When I first came to know about it – my friend shared a post on Instagram – I just shrugged and moved on. It felt like another one of those ‘skincare trends’ that would die out in the next few days. But it didn’t; it continued to get talked about, and I had to give it a shot before choosing to knock it down.
As someone with an extremely oily skin type, it’s quite an art to decipher what works and what doesn’t. Most products feel overwhelming for my skin – I can almost feel my pores clogging. So when something feels instantly incredible, I can’t help but recommend it to all and sundry.
And that’s what I’m here to do – wax eloquent about snail mucin. It truly works and you’ll be addicted to it once you’ve tried it!
What is Snail Mucin?
It’s a gift from the world of Korean skincare, actually. Snails naturally produce slime or mucus, which is then collected and harvested without harming those snails, since that slime has tremendous skin healing and rejuvenating properties.
Since the world started tuning into what the Koreans were doing in terms of skincare, snail mucin soon found a way into the rest of the world. And since then, multiple brands have started using it as part of their serums, moisturisers and face masks.

Snail mucin packs quite a punch (the gentle, good for your skin-type!) when it comes to its properties, each of which are beneficial for the skin. It’s got glycoproteins, hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, zinc, allantoin and antioxidants, all of which work towards making your skin look its optimum best.
Who knew a creature so tiny could be so good for us, right?
Benefits of Snail Mucin
My personal take on snail mucin is that it’s extremely nourishing for the skin without feeling sticky or heavy. Plus it absorbs super quick so for someone with an oily skin, it’s quite a miracle worker, especially during summers.
For those of you who like lists, here’s me listing down the benefits of snail mucin:
1. It deeply hydrates the skin, leaving it moist and plump
2. It supports skin regeneration and also heals it
3. It’s anti-ageing since it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
4. It's also calming for those with skin irritation and/or inflammation

How to use Snail Mucin?
Since snail mucin-induced products are everywhere, it shouldn’t be a trouble for you to find one, irrespective of whichever product type you’re looking for. The easiest way to test out snail mucin for most people is by using a sheet mask. Though I’d say a moisturiser is your safest and the most efficient bet. Since snail mucin works well with most ingredients, including niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and peptides, you won’t have to worry about pairing it with a serum of your choice either. Nor will it trigger those with sensitive skin.
