Staying At Fairmont Mumbai Is the New Getaway

Mumbai’s best family holiday this summer might not require leaving the city at all.

The fantasy of the summer holiday has always been about distance. The further you go, the logic runs, the more you’ve earned it. And so families pack bags, book flights, navigate airports at 5 AM with children who are either dangerously wired or completely inert, and arrive somewhere else — exhausted before the holiday has technically begun.

It’s worth asking, at some point, what exactly we’re running towards.

Set minutes from the airport, it’s easy for you to check in at 11 AM and leave at 4 PM on your last day. Breakfast and dinner are handled at The Merchants. The room is already a category up, and raiding the minibar doesn’t require a second thought!

This is not luxury as spectacle. It’s luxury as friction reduction, which is — ask any parent of young children — considerably more valuable.

Meanwhile, Madeleine de Proust, Fairmont’s patisserie and tea lounge, is where the pace changes most noticeably. The high tea at the hotel, honestly is a highlight. Time stretches here in a way it rarely does anywhere else in the city. There’s also a Junior Chef Baking Session for children.

At Blu Xone, the spa, the couple’s wellness session — Cryotherapy or Far Infrared Sauna, one complimentary — is the other recalibration offered here. Cold therapy is having its moment, justifiably; the Far Infrared Sauna is the quieter option, working at a depth that a standard steam room doesn’t reach.

Meanwhile: children under six stay and dine complimentary. Tiny Town Kids’ Club exists. So you can truly relax without having to fret constantly.

Mumbai doesn’t do stillness easily. It is, structurally, opposed to it. Which is precisely why a stay that manufactures it — competently, without fuss, within the city you already live in — is not a compromise, but a need.
