HBO's New Harry Potter Trailer Drops: Cast, Release Date, and Everything We Know

The world of wizardry is inviting us to it soon again. We're officially returning to Hogwarts that was first teased in March this year. Now, we have an official Harry Potter trailer drop to make us even more excited.

The trailer that dropped this week ahead of the release of HBO's most anticipated series Harry Potter is perfect reminder of why we've loved the series. But by no means, the Dominic McLaughlin starrer Harry Potter is simply a recreation of the Harry Potter fans remember.

Following HBO’s earlier teaser released in March, the latest trailer dives deeper into the characters, locations and classrooms that will define the first season. Here's everything the fans can get glimpses of including some familiar faces, expansive new looks at Hogwarts and, naturally, the wonderfully dramatic chaos of Potions class.

The trailer features several moments that fans will recognise from Philosopher’s Stone. Harry attends classes at Hogwarts and learns about the magical world. Directed by Mark Mylod, Jessica Hobbs, Lucy Forbes and Benjamin Caron, Francesca Gardiner and Jon Brown serve as showrunners.

The new preview features speaking lines from Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, alongside several of the professors who will shape Harry’s first year at Hogwarts. The footage revisits some of the most recognizable moments from J.K. Rowling’s first novel, including Harry’s Sorting Hat ceremony, scenes on the Quidditch pitch and his memorable encounters with Professor Snape.

Unlike the series’ first teaser, which drew criticism from some fans for its muted and desaturated visual style, the new footage appears considerably richer and more cinematic. The production design, visual effects and overall presentation evoke the scale and atmosphere of the Warner Bros. films rather than giving the project a distinctly television-like appearance.

HBO’s official description for the first season reads:

“There is nothing special about Harry Potter -or so his Aunt Petunia tells him. But when a mysterious letter of admission to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrives, it opens the door to a hidden world of magic, friendship and adventure. Yet behind Hogwarts’ enchanted walls lie dark secrets. Harry must find the courage to prove himself against the darkest wizard of all.”

The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid and will be available to watch on Christmas 2026.
