For BamBam, style has never been about the clothes he wears or the beats he drops — it’s a language he calls “BamBam My Color.” The GOT7 rapper-singer has built a global reputation for blending sleek fashion with a sound that is distinctly his own, whether it’s fronting campaigns for Louis Vuitton and Saint Laurent or penning songs that pulse with his personality.
Now, he’s coming full circle with HOMETOWN, his first-ever Thai album, a project that takes him back to Bangkok while pushing his artistry forward. Its lead single, Dancing By Myself, featuring Timethai, is a stylish ode to independence as he sings aloud, “I’m fine being alone.”
In an exclusive conversation with Esquire India, BamBam opens up about his evolving sound, the synergy between his music and fashion, and why HOMETOWN is his boldest self-portrait yet.
'Dancing By Myself' has a strong sense of independence and self-expression. How does this track reflect where you are personally and creatively right now?
When I came up with the message behind the song, it was that I like to enjoy my own time a lot lately, and I feel like a lot of people have a similar feeling too. I want people to feel confident when they have their own time and don’t need to care about what others think or see.
The song carries a theme of celebrating one’s own company. How do you personally balance independence with connection in your life, especially being constantly in the public glare?
I try to take care of my people as much as I can, the ones that I can really call my people. In the middle of this busy schedule, I can always make time for them. That’s how I balance it.
Your collaboration with Timethai brings a distinct energy to the song. What was it like working with him, and how did you approach blending your styles?
He was super hands-on. Even though I brought him something he doesn’t do often, he still worked hard and pulled it off. I really appreciate his talent.

HOMETOWN is your first Thai solo album. How does returning to your roots shape the way you approach your music today?
I think it is a new chapter for myself and also for a lot of people who enjoy my music. I still keep my own music style, just in a different language.
The release of HOMETOWN comes at a pivotal point in your career. How do you feel this album represents your growth as an artist?
I feel really blessed and feel the hard work me and my team put in has paid off. It is a big step for everyone, and I’m even happier that this album is all about my culture.
For fans around the world experiencing your music for the first time, what do you hope they take away from HOMETOWN and “Dancing By Myself”?
I hope they have a good time and feel a lot of new emotions they don’t usually get from music these days. That’s everything I need.
Fashion and music often intersect in your work. How do you see your personal style influencing your musical identity?
Fashion & music always come together for me, so I would describe my fashion & music as a “BamBam” style—my own colour.
How would you define your style?
Fashion for me holds a lot of meaning. It can be a way to introduce myself to people. Or to describe what I'm feeling on that particular day. So my style is just "BamBam"!
