Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is officially returning to the big screen with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth standalone film in Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man franchise. After the emotional ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the new film picks up with Peter Parker completely alone in a world that no longer remembers him.
According to the official synopsis, Brand New Day takes place four years after the events of No Way Home. Peter has erased himself from the memories of everyone he loves, including MJ and Ned, and is now living anonymously in New York while focusing entirely on being Spider-Man.
Marvel describes him as a “full-time Spider-Man,” with Peter dedicating his life to protecting the city after giving up his civilian identity. Producer Amy Pascal previously explained that the film would deal directly with Peter’s decision to stop trying to balance both lives because “being Peter Parker was too hard.”
Not only that, Peter may be facing a new physical problem connected to his powers. Alongside that, the city is dealing with a strange wave of crimes tied to what Marvel calls one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.
Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, while Zendaya returns as MJ and Jacob Batalon reprises his role as Ned Leeds. Jon Favreau is also returning as Happy Hogan.
One of the biggest additions to the cast is Sadie Sink, although Marvel has not revealed who she is playing yet. Online speculation has linked her to several comic book characters, including Jean Grey, though nothing has been confirmed.
Another major addition is Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed the character will appear in the movie, although in a more family-friendly version compared to his darker Disney+ projects.
Destin Daniel Cretton Takes Over as Director
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the recently released Wonder-Man. He replaces Jon Watts, who directed Holland’s previous Spider-Man trilogy.
Filming reportedly began in London during summer 2025 and wrapped in December the same year. Cretton confirmed production had finished through an Instagram post praising Holland’s work ethic and leadership on set.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to release in theatres on July 31, 2026. The film was originally set for July 24 before Sony pushed the date back by one week.
