Team India is set to Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series starting Thursday. The 1st IND vs ZIM T20I match will be played at the Harare Sports Club from 4:30 p.m. IST onwards. Shreyas Iyer will be hoping to register his first win as India captain, while his young side looks to bounce back against a spirited Zimbabwe team in the short series.

India suffered a 0-2 T20I series defeat to Ireland in Belfast before going down 0-4 in the five-match T20I series against England under new captain Iyer. India also lost the ODI series 1-2 under Shubman Gill.

With Gautam Gambhir unavailable, VVS Laxman will return as stand-in head coach, while several young players are expected to get an extended run in the series.

The spotlight once again will be on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who is set to open in all three games alongside Abhishek Sharma as Sanju Samson hasn't even been selected.

Meanwhile, Iyer has urged his players to play fearless cricket and ignore outside criticism after the team's disappointing tour of England, saying the recent setbacks have brought the squad closer.

"We had a rough patch in England, but there were a lot of positives out of that. We got to know what we have to build as a team going forward, what kind of presence of mind, awareness and adaptability we need once we step onto the field," Iyer said on the eve of the opening T20I.

Iyer, who is touring Zimbabwe for the first time, said the biggest challenge would be adjusting to the conditions in a short span of time.

"Some of us are playing here for the first time, so the quicker we adapt, the better results we will get," he said.

On the eve of the series, Zimbabwe T20 captain Sikandar Raza dismissed any talk of India being overwhelming favourites and insisted that the series will be a closely-fought contest with both teams having an equal chance of emerging victorious.

"Both countries will have an equal chance in this series. But one thing I am very sure about is that because Zimbabwe has been playing very consistent and very entertaining cricket, I can say this for sure that this series will be very entertaining," Raza told Star Sports.

"As far as winning or losing is concerned, both countries have an equal chance to win the series," he added.
