Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has acknowledged the heavy skew toward the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition, though he's not ready to call it a lasting trend until the wider buying audience weighs in. Rockstar Games

Why 89% Of GTA 6 Pre-Orders Are Going Straight For $99 Edition (And Why It's Worth It)

Roughly 89% of GTA 6 pre-orders are landing on one edition. This is the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition, turning what is usually a niche premium tier into the clear default, with the split holding steady across both Xbox and PlayStation.

Usually, premium editions are a hard sell. A slightly shinier box, a few digital trinkets, and maybe 10 to 20 percent of buyers take the bait while everyone else sticks to standard. GTA 6, as usual, just broke that math completely. Roughly 89% of GTA 6 pre-orders are going straight for the $99 edition, which is split almost evenly across Xbox and PlayStation. This is the pricey, GTA 6 Ultimate Edition.

GTA 6 Ultimate Edition seems to have done the impossible - move the premium tier to basically the default choice. Ideally, the GTA 6 standard edition should have been the default choice as it is much cheaper. However, once you look at what's actually separating the two GTA 6 editions, it stops looking like a fluke.

Why 89% Of GTA 6 Pre-Orders Are Going Straight For $99 Edition (And Why It's Worth It)

The gap between the $99.99 GTA 6 Ultimate Edition and the $79.99 Standard Edition is $20, and by most accounts, that's a small price for what's on offer.

The GTA 6 Ultimate Edition is not just cosmetic flair bolted on for the sake of it; it comes loaded with extra vehicles, weapons, shops, and cosmetic content, all stitched directly into the game's story chapters rather than sitting off to the side as bonus content.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has confirmed the skew toward premium, though he is cautious about reading too much into it. Early GTA 6 pre-orders tend to be from the most dedicated fans, and Take-Two itself is not sure yet whether this trend holds once the wider audience starts buying in.

GTA 6 Ultimate Edition Or Standard? You Don't Actually Have To Decide Now

Here is the part that takes the pressure off: this is not a lock-in-now-or-lose-it deal. Rockstar has confirmed that anyone who buys the Standard Edition can grab the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately, whenever they want.

So the 89% figure says a lot about demand for the premium content. So, if you are on the fence, pre-ordering the GTA 6 Standard Edition now and upgrading later is also a completely valid path, no penalty, no missed window, just a slightly later arrival at the same destination.
