Can the digital world spark relationship tension in the real world? Well, when it comes to GTA 6, everything is possible, including sparking concern about romance and cheating. Well, in GTA 6, Lucia and Jason's love life has generated real-world tension. Leaked GTA 6 sex scenes and nudity have made things worse. Picture your partner clocking hours on their PS5 or Xbox consoles flirting with someone, holding hands, going on dates, remembering every little text. Is that cheating even though it is a video game? That is the conversation GTA 6 has accidentally kicked off ahead of its November 19, 2026 launch.
Rockstar's leading protagonists, Lucia and Jason, are not locked into a scripted romance, but players can nudge things that way anyway, through shopping trips, bar visits, workouts and the small stuff like holding hands or replying fast to a text or even public display of affection. Harmless bonding, or something a real-life partner has every right to side-eye? The internet cannot agree. GTA 6 now faces charges of encouraging cheating as is clear from this YouGov survey.
GTA 6 has taken over every aspect of life these days and the hype even forced YouGov to come up with a marvellous poll. Involving over 4,000 British adults, it revealed that if players pushed forward Lucia and Jason's love life with their interventions in GTA 6, then they are cheating, according to 6% of those polled. In fact, they termed it outright cheating, while another 19% said they'd simply 'not be okay with it', women more so than men.
Not too many were thrilled by this interpretation. "Dismayed", was the reaction by TikTok creator Alli Franco, who has over a million followers, as reported by BBC. Franco compared it to having a crush on a TV star. She argued a fictional character isn't a real third party, so there's no actual cheating happening.
Her followers mostly agreed, though not everyone was fully convinced, several commenters admitted it gets murkier if real plans start getting cancelled for fictional ones.
Not many people were impressed by players being dubbed cheaters if they pushed the Lucia and Jason love life in GTA 6 towards its logical conclusion as is clear from other reactions to the poll.

Even as the majority in the poll ignored the charges of infidelity, there is more to GTA 6 love and sex scenes. Games flirting with fictional romance are not new. Harvest Moon had players marrying villagers back in 1996, Final Fantasy VII built entire arcs around emotional attachment, and The Sims let people flirt, date and raise families.
What is different now, says Florida State University's Arienne Ferchaud, is how real it is starting to feel. The more lifelike the game, the harder it is to feel like you are just playing one.
So, can you actually cheat with lines of code? Are players cheating while boosting the Lucia and Jason love life in GTA 6? It will all become clear when GTA 6 launches and reactions flood the Internet.
