Nothing gets the internet theorising faster than a GTA 6 trailer. And Jason and Lucia have officially become Reddit’s favourite mystery. A post asking what kind of trouble the duo is actually in has turned the GTA 6 subreddit into a full-blown investigation, complete with timestamps, screenshots, and a corrupt cop that everybody is blaming for all kinds of wrongdoing. Between a party, a police interrogation, and cops turning on their own, GTA 6 fans aren't just watching the trailer anymore; they're building an entire case file around it.
It began with user u/Crazy-Berry6330 piecing together scattered trailer clues: Jason and Lucia showing up to Brian’s party clearly looking for Raul’s help, Lory greeting them with a loaded “what have you gotten yourselves into,” and a cut to the two being detained and questioned by cops, followed by cops shooting cops. Lucia, notably, warns Jason against bringing up their situation with Raul on a first meeting.
The original poster’s theory: the couple got caught mid-job, dirty cops led by a figure named Mendez killed their own colleagues to cover it up. And now, Mendez is either framing Jason and Lucia for the murders or shaking them down for money.
User flowmarine zoomed into the detainment scene itself, set outside public lockers under visible surveillance, suggesting Jason and Lucia got caught mid-heist and Mendez now wrongly believes they have something on him. Another reply agreed, pointing out the pair can’t take down someone like Mendez alone and likely need bigger allies, possibly Raul.
User BlackArmy439 flagged that Jason and Lucia appear in disguises in the scene, hinting at a scouted job gone wrong that spiralled into the cop-killing frame-up.
Meanwhile, AlternativeThrob steered attention to the black briefcase Lucia keeps carrying across artwork and screenshots, wondering if it’s the actual key to the plot.
And just when the thread seemed to have theorised itself out, Comfortable-Age1360 dropped the detail that reportedly settles it: a leaked mission description from months ago apparently describes cops betraying each other, which lines up almost exactly with what fans are watching frame by frame.
