Grand Theft Auto VI is less than two months away, and Vice City is about to swallow a lot of free time. But the moment the credits roll, one question will start doing laps in every gamer's head: what will Rockstar do next? A fresh leak suggests that after GTA 6, the next Rockstar project will be L.A. Noire 2, and not Red Dead Redemption 3 as most of us had pencilled in. However, Rockstar has not said a word about it, yet.
The claim comes from a GTA Forums member going by the 'Shahanshah' title, who says L.A. Noire 2 is Rockstar's next project. Talk of this follow-up to the 2011 version first did the rounds back in 2023, but the criminal profile it would supposedly revolve around has only surfaced recently: the Zodiac Killer.
That would be a real shift. The original was inspired by crimes from the 1940s, not by any real-life killer. The sequel is also rumoured to move to San Francisco, where the Zodiac Killer was active, which would likely make it a 1960s story. Shahanshah adds that Rockstar wants to push facial scanning and animation even further this time.
Plenty of players would happily welcome a new L.A. Noire 2. Just not if it costs them Red Dead Redemption 3. The dream scenario looks a lot like what happened after GTA V, when Rockstar moved on to Red Dead Redemption 2. That would mean, work on the unannounced RDR3 could begin soon after GTA 6 lands, while another team digs into the detective sequel at the same time. Two cases, one studio, no fan left behind.
Until Rockstar confirms anything, though, L.A. Noire 2 arriving ahead of Red Dead Redemption 3 remains a rumour. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
