The Apple foldable has barely left the launch pad, and Apple fans are already looking ahead to the iPhone 18 launch date. When is it happening? After Apple failed to release the iPhone 18 during the September launch event, fans have been waiting for an announcement. That is not happening any time soon, but there are clues to when it is likely to happen. No, the reason isn't a mystery: the standard iPhone 18 is likely headed for a spring 2027 release. The fall lineup stuck to 3 very expensive phones: the Duo, the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max. That left folks eyeing the base model in waiting mode. However, iPhone 18 is not the only iPhone likely to launch. It may well be accompanied by other budget smartphones like the iPhone 18e and the long-promised iPhone Air 2.
Apple has used spring to drop its budget iPhone for two years running, the iPhone 16e in February 2025 and the iPhone 17e in March 2026.
That same March, Apple also unveiled the iPad Air, Studio Display, Studio Display XR, and refreshed MacBook Pro and MacBook Air lineups, all practically back to back.
It is beginning to look less like coincidence and more like a preference. Apple is looking to create a clear gap between its premium and budget iPhones and the best way seems to be to put a serious gap between their launches too, apart from their prices, of course.
The iPhone 17e launched on March 2, 2026, the same day that the Mobile World Congress (MWC ) kicked off, so expect something similar this time. Apple may well stagger announcements across consecutive days, the way it did in 2026, or give the lineup its own dedicated event. So, the iPhone 18 launch date may well be Wednesday, March 2, 2027 or a day after on March 3. In effect, Apple will ensure it puts the spotlight on the iPhones and take attention away from the MWC, which it has not been inclined to attend.
Pre-orders may open the next Friday after launch. As for when the phones actually hit shelves, Apple has leaned toward Fridays, which puts the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 on track for March 12, 2027.
