The iX1 LWB has been a game changer for BMW in the entry-level luxury segment in terms of bringing in first-time buyers. Now, BMW has applied the same winning formula with the petrol version.
Launched at Rs49.90 lakh and available with an assured buyback of 60 per cent after four years, the X1 LWB is more competitive in terms of outright pricing in comparison to the outgoing X1 model.
As with the electric version, the LWB configuration translates to a roomy cabin on the inside with an increase in wheelbase by 108mm, thanks to a length of 4616mm. That means the rear seat is more like a lounge with acres of space to stretch out along with a seat recline option.
The seat itself is more comfortable now and the large panorama sunroof also adds to the sense of space. The larger rear door opens wider now for easier egress and ingress too. In the front, it's the familiar twin-connected screen display and a floating console, while features like a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, powered seats and a 360-degree camera are also present from the electric X1 model.
That’s not all. Safety features include eight airbags and ADAS features like auto emergency braking plus more.
The X1 LWB packs in a 1.5-litre turbo petrol which delivers 156hp and 230Nm with a standard 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. Unlike the standard X1, there is no diesel on offer but the petrol version gains more power and that's evident with the way it drives.
Power delivery is linear and the trademark BMW precision is now mixed with more comfort with a pliant suspension. The refinement is also top notch with NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) levels being improved. Despite the increase in length, the handling is still controlled well with less body roll along with a direct steering feedback. Compared to the outgoing X1, this is a better sorted car.
To sum it all up, along with the electric iX1 LWB, you can expect to see a lot more of these BMW X1 LWB models on Indian roads. It packs in more value and offers a compelling luxury car experience, without the need for breaking the bank.
