DON’T DROP THE BALL

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEW YORK Knicks. Now that that’s out of the way, we ask: what does it take to craft a decisive moment? In basketball, we can say for sure—it’s months. Of spinning, silversmithing, chasing, hand engraving and polishing. Sixty-five hours of work in total. Sterling silver and a gold vermeil. The Larry O’Brien Trophy, which captures a basketball before it enters the hoop, the ball frozen over the basket poised along an angle, is the second before the eruption of euphoria. This truly iconic listing in Tiffany & Co.’s hallowed cabinet of sporting curiosities, which by another edition of the league will be fifty years old, is a split-second child of serendipity.

FULL THROTTLE

THE TAG HEUER MONACO HAS BEEN BLENDING SPEED AND TIMEKEEPING EFFORTLESSLY since 1969. The TAG Heuer Monaco Speed 12 takes that heritage to a whole new level. Powered by the brand-new Calibre TH84-00, this limited edition timepiece reinterprets the iconic Spin Time movement with 12 piston-shaped indexes that frame the centre of the dial. The rotating pistons indicate the corresponding hour with every revolution of the central minute hand, offering a stunning reinterpretation of the jumping hour complication. It echoes the rhythm of a high-performance engine on your wrist.

WATCH THIS, SPACE

NASA HAD A MEATBALL AND A worm (hint: take a good look at its logo). Now, it has a Prada (space) suit too. The AxEMU, or Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit, spacesuit, designed in collaboration with Prada and Axiom Space, will carry the first woman and first person of colour on the Artemis III lunar mission in 2027. A next-generation garment with white shell trimmed in red, constructed from a custom-woven blend of Teflon, Nomex and Kevlar, the suit is a chic 3D model creation that supports spacewalks of up to eight hours and protects against debris and flame.
