Skincare Products We’re Loving This Summer

Your winter moisturiser has no business being on your face right now

Saurav Bhanot

This summer skincare guide urges readers to swap heavy winter formulas for lightweight, non-greasy products that keep skin comfortable in the heat. It outlines a simple cleanse-to-SPF routine, highlights vitamin C, niacinamide and retinol for brightening, acne control and anti-ageing, and recommends hydrating serums, gel masks, cleansing balms, SPF 50 sunscreens and a nourishing hand cream.

Nothing says summer quite like a shopping spree. Aside from the scorching heat, of course, but this isn’t about that. This is about an opportunity to switch up your skincare routine because during summer, you want to only use products that truly work while also leaving your skin feeling light.

Those heavy moisturisers & pore-clogging serums are better left for colder climates; your summer skincare routine needs lighter textures & non-greasy, quick-absorbing products instead.

How to build a good summer skincare routine

Step 1

Start your morning or evening routine by thoroughly cleansing your face. All that sweat oozing out of your pores? That needs to be wiped clean from your skin. Along with the dirt, dust & pollutants you’ve picked up from your surroundings along the way.

Step 2

Next up, toner. This will help tighten those pores your cleanser would’ve opened. It’s optional, though.

Step 3

Now comes the part about treating your skin barrier and nourishing it with skin-loving ingredients. A good serum will do all that and more. A vitamin C one will help with brightening. Using a serum with niacinamide will aid in fighting with acne & breakouts. Retinol is incredible for anti-ageing. So on and so forth.

Step 4

Once you’ve done all that, lock it all in with a good moisturiser. One that’s nourishing without feeling heavy. Something that’s water or gel-based, ideally. If not, anything that’s light enough on your skin without looking and/or feeling excessive.

Step 5

This one is for only during the day. Never, ever step out of your home without using a good sunscreen. Again, a water-based sunscreen won’t feel too heavy. How to assess if a sunscreen is good? It absorbs quickly, is broad spectrum-based & water/sweat-resistant and doesn’t leave a white cast.
