In this interview, a leading pace bowler known for his poise and subtle charisma talks about his journey with confidence and style. He shares how being authentic, valuing family, and maintaining inner peace shape his identity, while his fondness for a distinctive, long-lasting fragrance aligns naturally with the heritage and aspirational values of the brand he now represents.
There’s something about Jasprit Bumrah – almost everyone is a fan!
You might admire him for his exceptional bowling abilities or the composure he keeps during the most nail-biting moments during matches. Or maybe you’ve enjoyed his subtle flirtation with his presenter wife during post-match interview. Boom Boom Bumrah is a once in a generation player, so safe to say, they don’t make ‘em like him anymore. But you know what we’ve always liked about him? He’s always well-groomed, every time you see him outside of the stadium. An underrated style icon, if you may. Simple, sharp and sophisticated. But when Ralph Lauren Fragrances announced him as their new face in India, we took to a moment to wonder: has he always been a fragrance person? Someone had to ask them, and so we did.
Edited excerpts:
What does confidence look like to you now, compared to earlier in your career?
Confidence, to me, is believing in yourself and being comfortable in your own skin. That is the most important thing. In this day and age, everybody is trying to be someone, trying to be something, or trying to be like someone else. So I think confidence is key—being comfortable in your own skin and accepting who you are, while continuing to aspire for higher things in life.
What makes you confident off the field?
I feel very confident because of my family and the support that I have. I know it is not a materialistic thing or something else, but for me, peace is very important, and that comes through family. So that makes me who I am.
Fragrance is invisible but powerful. What kind of presence do you like to leave behind when you enter a room?
Fragrance is a very important part of my life. I am very fond of fragrances. I like that fragrance to be felt when I enter a room because I like having my own signature scent that people notice when I walk in. So yeah, like you said, it is an invisible power, but it leaves an impact.
Do you stick to your signature scent or switch it up?
I stick to a signature scent for a while, but I use it so much that everybody recognizes it and knows I have entered. Then, when I reach a point of exhaustion with it, I switch things up and maybe try some other options.
What's your signature scent?
It starts off fresh, but it dries down to an amber note. It lasts long and has a lasting impact.
Ralph Lauren is built on heritage, timelessness & aspiration. What parts of that philosophy feel closest to who you are today?
All these things naturally align with me because these are values that I believe in as well. So that is why this association is so organic, and it just works well.
