Indian homegrown labels have long been shaping what fashion means, with young designers and established design houses creating work that has earned recognition around the world and defined some of fashion’s biggest moments. Now, Indian design is having its moment in the global spotlight, and it is about time. While your sneaker collection might be packed with coveted pairs from Off-White, Nike and other international names, these four homegrown Indian brands are making some of the coolest sneakers you will want to add to your rotation.

What makes this new wave worth paying attention to is the way these labels are approaching footwear on their own terms. Moving beyond familiar silhouettes and predictable colourways, they are experimenting with distinctive shapes, unexpected materials and design details that give each pair a personality of its own.

Almost Gods: Tether

After eight years of building its clothing business, Almost Gods has entered footwear with Tether, its first sneaker. Founded by Dhruv Khurana in 2018, the label brings its interest in symbolism and architectural forms to a low-profile silhouette. The design features a wrapping motif inspired by the use of enclosures in Shinto traditions to signify protection or sacredness.
