Most Indian citizens need an e-visa before travelling, despite what several travel blogs claim about Kyrgyzstan being entirely visa free for Indians. According to the Embassy of India in Bishkek, visa free entry only applies to Indians holding a long term (minimum three year) US, UK, or Schengen visa and arriving by air through Manas International Airport, where they can stay up to 7 days. Everyone else needs to apply for the Sapar e-visa through the official portal, evisa.e-gov.kg. It costs around USD 30, takes 3 working days to process (24 hours if urgent), and allows a stay of up to 60 days depending on the visa type.

Bishkek's Manas International Airport is well connected to Delhi. TezJet runs direct flights several times a week, taking around 3 hours 15 minutes, while Air Astana, Uzbekistan Airways, and Azerbaijan Airlines offer one-stop options via Almaty, Tashkent, or Gulf hubs. Round trip direct fares typically start around Rs 20,000 to Rs 28,000 if booked 3 to 4 weeks in advance, though prices rise during the June to August peak season.
Local transport is cheap across the country. Bishkek's shared minibuses, or marshrutkas, cost under Rs 20 a ride, and ride hailing apps like Yandex Go charge Rs 190 to Rs 480 for a trip across town. Travelling between cities, such as Bishkek to Karakol, costs Rs 480 to Rs 960 by marshrutka or Rs 960 to Rs 1,450 by shared taxi. Food is just as affordable: a local meal of plov or lagman costs Rs 190 to Rs 480, while a sit down restaurant meal runs Rs 770 to Rs 1,150. Budget travellers who mostly eat local can get by on Rs 1,450 to Rs 1,900 a day for food.
June to September is the main travel season, when mountain passes and lakes like Issyk-Kul and Song-Kul are fully accessible and the weather is at its mildest. July and August are the busiest and priciest months, so late May, early June, or September usually offer a better mix of good weather and lower costs. Winters bring heavy snow to the mountains and suit travellers specifically looking for skiing.
