The town of Phulera is finally returning; the countdown is almost over. As told to India today, Deepak Kumar Mishra, who has directed every season of Panchayat since it began in 2020, has confirmed that the show's fifth outing is deep in post-production and could arrive on Amazon Prime Video sometime around October or November this year.
Mishra noted that editing is currently underway and that the streamer is yet to lock the final release schedule. Fans hoping for an exact premiere date will have to wait a little longer. “The editing process is currently underway. The exact release has not been finalized yet. It could be around November or December,” he said.
Season 4 closed with Abhishek Tripathi awaiting his CAT results, Manju Devi coming to terms with an election loss, and Pradhan Ji visibly rattled after being voted out. According to Mishra, the new season won't skip past that fallout instead, it will follow how each character adjusts once the dust from the panchayat election settles. He explained that Pradhan Ji's journey will be central to this arc, exploring what life looks like for a village head who has just lost power, and how he carries himself around Phulera afterward.
Mishra was also clear that every principal character, not just Pradhan Ji, will see some kind of shift. As mentioned, the new season focuses on the aftermath of the elections, alongside the gradual arcs of Abhishek, Vikas, Prahlad, and the rest of the Phulera ensemble.
Perhaps the most reassuring part of Mishra's comments was his response to speculation that Panchayat might conclude with this season. He firmly rejected the idea, indicating there's no plan to end the franchise here and that the story still has room to grow. That should come as a relief to the show's large fan base, many of whom feared Season 5 might be the finale given how definitively Season 4 closed out the election storyline.
Filming for the new season reportedly began earlier this year, with the original creative team, Chandan Kumar on writing duties and Mishra directing back in place. The cast, including Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Faisal Malik, Chandan Roy, and Sanvikaa, is also returning.
