Marvel Television used New York Comic Con 2026 to pull a fresh rabbit out of the hat: Zodiac, a live-action spy thriller headed to Disney+ in 2028. Here is everything we know about Marvel Zodiac so far, along with what the comics suggest about where it could be going.
In the comics, Zodiac is a criminal cartel whose twelve leaders take their names and themes from the signs of the astrological calendar. The group debuted in The Avengers #72 in January 1970. Their founder is businessman Cornelius van Lunt, who worked under the name Taurus and hand-picked the other eleven members.
Are they heroes? Not in the comics, no. Think of them as some for of comics Illuminati (without the budget), pulling the strings and plotting for world domination by controlling politics, economy and the like.
Oh, and fun fact: in the comics, Nick Fury's brother, Jake, is a part of this group as well. Does that mean we'll see more of Nick Fury? Possibly. Even if the Scorpio of MCU'S Zodiac is not Fury's brother, the secret organisation has plenty of ties with SHIELD for Fury to not make an appearance (to be honest, they're also the villains in some Moon Knight runs in the comics, but well, you can only hope for the best).
Historically, SHIELD and Zodiac have been up in arms against each other throughout the comics. And akthough Marvel has stayed silent on the question, the Zodiac logo does have some references to secret organisation.
The eagle in the A of Zodiac, for example, is a clear reference to SHIELD. The O is a refrence to the Great Wheel, a secret organisation of the world's greatest spies founded by Leonardo DaVinci himself. This includes some of the most prominent members of Hydra, as well as Nick Fury and John Garrett (remember the SHIELD show, Agents of SHIELD? He was in it).
No actors have been named, and Marvel has yet to reveal who is writing, directing or running the show. Marvel Television division head Brad Winderbaum announced at the New York Comic Con that casting will begin within the next couple of weeks. That way, the first names could surface before the year is out. Filming is expected to start in 2027, and cameras are expected to start rolling in London next spring.
Zodiac is slated to premiere on Disney+ in 2028, right after Avengers: Secret Wars. In India, this would hopefully mean that the series would air on JioHotstar. No exact date or episode count announced yet. Marvel has also not said whether Zodiac is designed as a limited run or as the first chapter of a multi-season commitment.
