Everything We Know About House Of The Dragon Season 3

The Battle Of The Gullet is here

Aditi Tarafdar

The third season of House of the Dragon picks up after Alicent’s broken truce with Rhaenyra, igniting the deadliest phase of the Targaryen civil war. With the core cast returning, new power players entering the fray, and long-teased battles finally realized, the series appears poised to deliver a more gripping and expansive chapter.

It’s an all-out civil war with the Targaryens and Hightowers in House of the Dragon Season 3, and the new teaser trailer that HBO dropped gives us a better look into the Dance of the Dragons and the fight for the Iron Throne.

But that’s not all. New characters and houses are involved in the fray, and after a disappointing second season, the third instalment of the Game of Thrones spinoff seems promising this time. Check out the new teaser below:

Where Are We Picking Up From?

Season 2 ended with Alicent meeting Rhaenyra to strike a peace deal. At Dragonstone, the Queen of the Greens promises her childhood friend a sweeping victory over the Red Keep in exchange for the safety of her children. But as we know, the deal will fall through, bringing forth the most deadly wing of the Dance of the Dragons.

New & Returning Cast Announced for Season 3

Ormund Hightower (James Norton) in House of the Dragon season 3

The core cast remains intact, with Emma D'Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower continuing their central rivalry, now complicated by captivity, loss, and shifting moral ground. Matt Smith returns as Daemon Targaryen, while Ewan Mitchell's Aemond will likely continue to be the main antagonist, while Tom Glynn-Carney’s Aegon II takes on a more active role in the war. Meanwhile, Fabien Frankel will continue his doomed expedition into the Riverlands as Ser Christian Cole.

But there are new parties involved this season. Ormund Hightower, played by James Norton, is the newest of the lot, entering the battle as a Green military commander to take down the Targaryens.

The Battles Get Bigger

Season 3 takes the civil war beyond the family: House Stark’s Winter Wolves, led by Roddy the Ruin, are teased. And so is the Battle of the Gullet, a massive naval battle between House Valaryon and the Triarchy, which was supposed to have aired at the end of season 2, but was removed because of studio cuts. If the show follows the books, we’ll soon get an ultimate showdown between Daemon and Aemond.
