Gajab Raat, a gripping Manoj Bajpayee thriller on Netflix, follows corrupt cop Ajay as he uncovers a conspiracy involving Arya, a journalist targeted for exposing a vaccine price hike scheme. The film ends with Ajay saving Arya, but the larger conspiracy remains hidden, showcasing his transformation from greed to integrity.
Not every crime thriller ties up its loose ends neatly, and Gajab Raat is no exception. Set over a single night in Delhi, the film follows Ajay (Manoj Bajpayee), a corrupt police officer whose investigation takes an unexpected turn when an injured woman falls from a moving car in Connaught Place. Directed by Ritesh Shah, the thriller began streaming on Netflix on October 23. Produced by Neeraj Pandey under Friday Filmworks, Gajab Raat also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha, Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, Divya Dutta and Shraddha Das. Here is the Gajab Raat ending explained, including the mystery surrounding the woman and how the story unfolds.
Arya arrives as a stranger. She falls from a moving car in Connaught Place, and the accounts Ajay hears do not agree. A CBI officer calls her a Russian drug lord's mole, an NIA officer insists she is an informant, and a third version paints her as a spy. In truth, she is a journalist who uncovered a plot between pharma players and powerful people to manufacture a vaccine shortage and push prices up. Her own editor sold her out, and she jumped from the car to escape the men sent to dispose of her.
The card drives the whole film. Arya swallowed it to keep it from her captors, and doctors find it when she begins convulsing. It holds her recorded account and a sting operation. After meeting the politician Suneeta Chaudhary (Divya Dutta) at a pandemic relief conference in Poland, Arya planted a camera in her room and caught her discussing the shortage and price rise with pharma owners. That footage is why a bureaucrat, a CBI officer and a politician all want her silenced.
Ajay is offered Rs 5 crore to kill Arya, and he initially agrees. But seeing her condition makes him reconsider. He realises that accepting the money would let the people behind the conspiracy escape justice. For once, he chooses not to put his greed first.
Ajay confronts Suneeta with an ultimatum: resign and make sure Arya gets proper medical care, or he releases the footage. Facing exposure, she agrees, and the arrangement also shields others the evidence could implicate. The film closes at dawn with Arya on her way to a hospital in Singapore, while Suneeta speaks to the press about a possible resignation.
This is a partial victory. Arya gets a chance at survival, but the wider conspiracy stays buried, because Ajay puts her safety ahead of a public reckoning. It also completes his arc: a cop who began the night calculating his cut ends it risking his position for a stranger.
