8 TV Shows That Deserved More Love At the Emmys

From Bojack Horseman to (can you believe it?) Better Call Saul

Aditi Tarafdar

The Emmys have long sparked debate over which shows truly deserve recognition, and this list spotlights eight acclaimed series that were shortchanged. From Better Call Saul’s record 53 nominations without a win to Hannibal’s lone visual effects nod and Peaky Blinders’ total shutout, it explores how beloved dramas, comedies, and animated gems never received the awards love fans expected.

Sure, the Emmy Awards have always sparked debates over who deserved to win and who was unfairly overlooked. Every year, at least one beloved series walks away empty-handed while another sweeps category after category (now watch The Bear win another Emmy for Comedy, while The Office barely has anything) continuing a streak that has already seen it rack up dozens of Emmy wins. Great show? Absolutely. But its success also throws fresh light on the many television classics that never received the recognition they arguably deserved.

Some of the biggest snubs have become part of Emmy folklore. Better Call Saul holds the unfortunate distinction of being the most nominated scripted series in Emmy history to never win a single award, finishing its run with an astonishing 53 nominations and zero victories. Steve Carell never won for The Office despite defining an entire era of sitcom comedy, while Peaky Blinders somehow never even secured a nomination. From psychological thrillers and prestige dramas to animated masterpieces and cult favourites, these are the shows that deserved far more love from television's biggest awards.

Hannibal

Bryan Fuller's psychological thriller follows gifted FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), whose partnership with psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) slowly turns into a chilling game of manipulation after he discovers that his trusted confidant is actually a serial killer and cannibal. Despite becoming one of the most acclaimed network dramas of its era, Hannibal received just a single Emmy nomination for Outstanding Visual Effects across its entire three-season run before NBC cancelled the series.

Better Call Saul

Now this is snub hall of fame. A prequel to Breaking Bad, the series traces the transformation of struggling lawyer Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) into the morally compromised criminal attorney Saul Goodman. Widely hailed as one of television's greatest dramas, Better Call Saul earned an astonishing 53 Emmy nominations across six seasons, yet walked away with zero wins, making it one of the biggest losers in Emmy history.

The Office

The beloved workplace sitcom follows the chaotic employees of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch, led by their painfully awkward yet oddly lovable boss Michael Scott (Steve Carell). While the series won five Emmys and received 44 nominations overall, Carell himself never won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy. Despite getting six nominations. Ang giving us Scot's Tots.

House

The medical drama centres on brilliant but abrasive diagnostician Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), whose unconventional methods repeatedly solve impossible medical mysteries while driving colleagues and patients to their limits. Although the show picked up Emmys for writing and directing, Laurie was nominated six times for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series without ever taking home the trophy.

Peaky Blinders

Set in post-World War I Birmingham, the crime saga set around the life Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) had the world on a chokehold. Yet, despite the global popularity, acclaimed performances, and a cast featuring Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Sam Claflin, Peaky Blinders never received as much as a single Emmy nomination.

Gilmore Girls

The heartwarming dramedy explores the close, witty relationship between single mother Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and her daughter Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) in the quirky town of Stars Hollow. Despite running for seven successful seasons and becoming a television classic, the show received only one Emmy nomination for makeup, while Graham was completely overlooked for her widely praised lead performance.

BoJack Horseman

This adult animated comedy following washed-up sitcom star BoJack Horseman (Will Arnett) as he battles addiction, depression, and the emptiness of fame won hearts right away. Yet the Netflix series earned just three Emmy nominations and never won. Many believe, however, that its sharp satire of Hollywood and awards culture, along with its unconventional storytelling-factors that made it so iconic in the fiorst place-worked against Emmy voters.
