James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third film in the blockbuster franchise, will finally stream on JioHotstar in India from June 24, over six months after its theatrical debut. The film, which grossed $1.49 billion worldwide, continues Disney’s strategy of treating Avatar as a premium big-screen event before its OTT release.

After a wait of more than six months, James Cameron's magnum opus, Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third instalment in the blockbuster Avatar franchise, will finally be available to stream on JioHotstar in India from June 24.

Why Avatar: Fire And Ash Took So Long To Arrive On OTT

This kind of gap between a theatrical release and an OTT premiere, while uncommon for most films, is not unusual for the Avatar franchise. Avatar: The Way of Water, the second instalment, which was released in December 2022, made its OTT debut on JioHotstar (then Disney+ Hotstar) in June 2023.

The extended theatrical window reflects how Disney and 20th Century Studios continue to position Avatar as a premium big-screen experience.

The film also became the first entry in the franchise not to receive a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards.
