The first full trailer for Ramayana: Part 1 finally arrives, unveiling Nitesh Tiwari’s grand retelling of the epic from Ayodhya to Lanka. Released in five languages, it showcases Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash and others, with fans noting major VFX upgrades over the criticised teaser and hailing the East‑West musical team of A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer ahead of its Diwali 2026 release.
The wait is finally over. After months of anticipation and a teaser that sparked endless discussions (and debates) online, the makers of Ramayana: Part 1 have unveiled the film's first full-length trailer. Released in the early hours of July 30, 2026, the four-minute trailer debuted simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, offering audiences their most detailed look yet at Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious retelling of the ancient Indian epic. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, the film is one of the biggest Indian productions ever mounted. The trailer opens with Yash's Ravana ascending the throne of Lanka before shifting to the peaceful kingdom of Ayodhya, where Lord Ram's story begins.
It then traces several of the epic's defining moments, including Ram accepting Queen Kaikeyi's wish and giving up the throne, his exile alongside Sita and Lakshman, Surpanakha's encounter with the brothers, the abduction of Sita, and the beginning of Ram's march toward Lanka to rescue her. Although the clip builds up to a fight between Ram and Ravana, we dn't get a glimpse of Hanuman (reportedly played by Sunny Deol) and the Vaanar Sena that helps Ram cross to Lanka and take on Ravana's army.
If you remember, the previous teaser which gave us the first official glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, was heavily panned for the quality and western influences in its graphics and VFX. Naturally, this time social media was flooded with comparisons between the earlier "Rama Glimpse" teaser and the final trailer.
Many viewers pointed out noticeable improvements in the visual effects, particularly the creature designs featured in the forest sequences. Fans claimed the redesigned demons now appear more rooted in Indian mythology, replacing what many had previously criticised as a look that resembled the orcs and Gollum from The Lord of the Rings.
Others also praised the richer colour palette, refined CGI and overall visual polish, suggesting the filmmakers had incorporated audience feedback following the teaser's release.
One of the film's biggest highlights is its unprecedented musical collaboration. The screenplay has been adapted by Shridhar Raghavan and Nitesh Tiwari, while A.R. Rahman has composed the songs. Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer has created the background score, marking his first Indian production. The film also represents one of the biggest East-West collaborations attempted in Indian cinema.
The project is produced by Prime Focus Studios, DNEG, and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, with Dharma Productions handling distribution across India.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to release worldwide during Diwali 2026, including an IMAX release. The film is the first installment of a planned two-part adaptation, with Ramayana: Part 2 expected to arrive in 2027.
