Rajinikanth is set to return as the formidable Muthuvel Pandian, better known as Tiger, in Jailer 2. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel follows the success of the 2023 action entertainer and has already generated considerable buzz among fans.

While details about the storyline and supporting cast remain limited, anticipation continues to build around the superstar’s next outing. With speculation surrounding possible cameos and returning characters, it is worth separating confirmed announcements from rumours. Here is everything currently known about Jailer 2, including its expected release, cast updates and more.

Jailer 2 Release Date

Jailer 2 opens worldwide on 15 October 2026. It is not the first date announced. Rajinikanth said in September 2025 that the film would arrive on 12 June 2026, but that date slipped. The makers confirmed the October release with a teaser in July 2026, and the film lands in the Deepavali window.

Jailer 2 Runtime

The Central Board of Film Certification cleared the film on 6 October with a U/A 16+ certificate and a runtime of about 2 hours 45 minutes (165 minutes). That is slightly shorter than the first film.

Jailer 2 Cast

Rajinikanth leads as Muthuvel Pandian. Returning from the 2023 original are Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa and Rithvik. New additions include S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan (in her first full-fledged Tamil role), Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anna Rajan and Jatin Sarna.

The guest appearances are the other draw. Mohanlal returns as Mathew and Shiva Rajkumar as Narasimha. Vijay Sethupathi has confirmed a cameo, and Vinayakan appears in a flashback as Varman. Jackie Shroff and Hrithik Roshan are also reported in cameos.

Jailer 2 Story

The makers have kept the plot under wraps. The first film followed a retired jailer hunting an idol smuggler who threatened his family. What we know about the sequel is that Muthuvel Pandian is back, Nelson has described it as an action comedy, and the trailers and songs point to a Kerala-flavoured backdrop.

Jailer 2 Music

Anirudh Ravichander composes again, in his fifth collaboration with Nelson and sixth with Rajinikanth. Released so far are "Hukum Reloaded" (from the announcement teaser), the instrumental "One Name" and the first single "Ala Bolelo".

Where To Watch Jailer 2

The film is a theatrical release, with Tamil as the original language and Telugu and Hindi versions also listed. No OTT date has been announced.
