There's Another God Of War Game Coming Out After Laufey

Good news for the God of War fandom, and a great one for all you whiners who have been crying over GoW getting a female lead: Sony Santa Monica Studio has officially confirmed that another God of War game is already in development, with Kratos set to return as the lead. This game will release after of God of War Laufey. 

The announcement was made during the God of War Laufey panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, (re)assuring fans that the franchise is headed well beyond Faye's upcoming adventure.

Santa Monica Studio Confirms Kratos' Next Game

During the Comic Con panel on Friday, Santa Monica Studio Head of Creative Cory Barlog confirmed that a new Kratos-led God of War game is already in development. We don’t know anything yet about the game's title, release window, setting or platforms, but the executive has confirmed that the project will directly continue the events of God of War Laufey.

Barlog reiterated at the panel that God of War Laufey is not a spin-off because the lead character has changed; the story of the game has been intentionally written to expand the existing narrative. According to the studio, everything introduced in Faye's journey is meant to lay the foundation for the next mainline game starring Kratos.

Although Santa Monica Studio stopped short of revealing story details, the setting of Laufey has already fuelled speculation of what the Kratos-led game will entail. In case you missed it, the upcoming game takes place in the Everywhen, a realm where gods from multiple mythologies exist together, so expect boss fights with deities from the Egyptian, Mongolian and even Chinese pantheon.

Other Upcoming God Of War Entries

The Comic-Con panel included another major update for longtime fans. Santa Monica Studio confirmed that additional God of War projects are in the works alongside the next Kratos adventure. Among them is the previously announced God of War Greek Trilogy Remake, although the studio did not provide fresh gameplay, a release date or further details about the project.

For now, God of War Laufey remains the next release in the series, arriving exclusively on PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. Beyond that, Santa Monica Studio has made one thing clear: Kratos' story is far from finished, with his next adventure already officially in development.
