Moving On From ChatGPT? Here Are 6 Other AI Chatbots You Need To Try Today

There’s never been more noise around AI and how it integrates into our day-to-day lives. Time to look beyond ChatGPT

By Nitin Sreedhar | LAST UPDATED: MAR 4, 2025

The recently concluded AI Summit in Paris had world leaders and tech CEOs converge in France to discuss greater access to AI infrastructure to ensure inclusion, the responsible use of AI, AI for public interest, making AI more diverse and sustainable. India is being touted as the next destination for the summit.

There’s never been louder chatter around artificial intelligence and how it integrates into our day-t-day lives. Elon Musk, who is now always in the news, proposed a $97-billion buyout offer for OpenAI. Sam Altman said: no, thank you.

The good thing is you don’t have to spend billions to harness the power and perks of AI. Even better: there is certainly a world beyond OpenAI’s ChatGPT. No, I am not talking about DeepSeek, which rattled the markets, shook the world and now finds itself surrounded by a host of issues and probes. Here’s a look at 6 other AI chatbots you can use - for quick hacks or to be more productive - on your computer and smartphones.

Claude by Anthorpic

AI safety and research company Anthorpic has positioned its generative AI chatbot Claude around the pillars of safety, security and information accuracy. According to the company, Claude can help with use cases including summarization, search, creative and collaborative writing, Q&A, coding, and more. It can even do real-time image processing. Send it a photo, and Claude will do the rest. Advanced reasoning, multilingual processing – Claude has a lot of power under the hood.

Le Chat by Mistral

Mistral is punching above its weight in the AI arena. The French company released the latest version of its AI assistant Le Chat earlier this month, labelling it a comprehensive AI assistant for your life and work. For one, Mistral says Le Chat is powered by the highest-performing, lowest-latency Mistral models and the fastest inference engines on the planet. According to a recent blog post, Le Chat reasons, reflects, and responds faster than any other chat assistant, going up to ~1000 words per second. I also tried Le Chat’s image generation feature, and it was a bit of a hit and miss. It will handle generic image prompts very well. Anything specific – for instance, I asked the chatbot to give me an image of Virat Kohli as a superhero – and it might not give you the desired results.

Perplexity AI

I really like Perplexity AI’s layout (even on the desktop) and intuitive setup. When you search for a query, it shows the sources of information right at the top. Query-related content is also shown in an impressive format. On the right, you can search images, videos pertaining to your query. You can look for latest news and trends under the ‘Discover’ tab. Once you choose a topic, Perplexity also gives you the option of adding a follow-up query. My most favourite trick is a quick shortcut that lets you start a new search thread at any point in time.

Gemini by Google

No other platform does real-time information from the web better than Gemini, which is now built into most Android phones. You can easily set up gesture and button controls to access Gemini on your Android smartphone. It’s much more seamless on the Google Pixel. I really love how Gemini has multiple options for how you want your AI assistant to sound like. It’s like building your own Jarvis. Most users can currently access Gemini 2.0 Flash on their devices. The model is designed to deliver high-speed performance and enhanced capabilities for a wide range of applications and is also optimized for low-latency scenarios.

Let us also take this moment to remember Google Bard, which was eventually rebranded as Gemini in February 2024.

Grok

Love or hate Elon Musk, you cannot dismiss the mad genius. Grok is the generative AI chatbot developed by xAI and is available in India, apart from more than 45 countries globally. Launched in November 2023, it is known for its conversational tone that blends humour and direct access to information from X (formerly Twitter), which is also owned by Musk. A standalone Grok app was launched recently.

Bonus: Microsoft CoPilot

Perhaps the most easily accessible chatbot for Windows users, Microsoft CoPilot must be sitting in the middle of your taskbar as you read this story on your Windows desktop. CoPilot is prompt and concise. I was impressed with its performance on my official work laptop. A great option if you don’t want to reach for your phone during some focused work hours.
