Apple just broke its own rulebook. It has given you an option it has never offered before alongside its two mainline iPhones: fold your phone, or stick with what's familiar. The choices look different, feel different, and cost different. These are the brand-new iPhone Duo, the iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max. So, do you want novelty or practicality? That’s exactly where this guide steps in.
The iPhone Duo price starts at Rs 2,99,900, the iPhone 18 Pro price starts at Rs 1,64,900, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max price opens at Rs 1,79,900. A gap steep enough to buy an entire second phone with the leftover change. Even the base Duo costs more than a fully loaded Pro Max. That is the main thing to consider before you impetuously pick the folding screen.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max stick to the formula that works: rigid 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR displays, an aluminium unibody, Face ID, and an Action button for quick shortcuts.
The Duo throws that formula out entirely. It unfolds into a 7.6-inch inner display with Split View for running two apps side by side, and folds shut into a 5.4-inch outer screen that can prop itself up for calls or video without needing a stand.
Touch ID replaces Face ID here, and the Action button is gone altogether. It’s also wider and heavier than even the Pro Max when closed, so 'compact' isn't really the suitable word.
This is where the iPhone Duo loses its biggest argument. The iPhone 18 Pro models carry a 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera with true optical zoom, a LiDAR scanner, and support for ProRAW, ProRes, and Apple Log 2, tools the Duo simply doesn’t get. Its camera setup leans more basic, built around folding convenience rather than photography muscle, and its front cameras trade resolution for FaceTime-friendly features instead.
So, between iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, who should buy what? If multitasking on a bigger canvas or the novelty of a folding iPhone genuinely changes how you’d use your phone daily, the Duo justifies its price tag.
Everyone else, especially anyone who cares about zoom range, manual camera controls, or simply not spending a small fortune, will find the iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max can do more for you and that too at a considerably less cost.
