Seiko has taken the idea of a "panda watch" quite literally. As part of its Power Design Project, the Japanese watchmaker has created a chronograph that does not just feature the black-and-white colour combination traditionally associated with the nickname. It actually looks like a panda.
Called the Pandagraph, the playful timepiece is available in two limited editions, HHK001 and HHK002. Both feature a collection of panda-inspired details, from textured fur and sleepy eyes to ears and a three-dimensional tail.
The concept was created by Seiko designer Kiyotaka Sakai as part of the brand's Power Design Project, an initiative that gives designers the freedom to explore unusual ideas outside conventional watchmaking.
The Pandagraph was originally presented at Seiko's 2024 "Incredibly Specialized Watch Exhibition", where it was one of seven unconventional concepts. The panda design proved particularly popular with visitors and was eventually selected to become a production watch.
Almost every part of the Pandagraph has been designed around its animal inspiration. The dial features a textured pattern intended to resemble panda fur, while the two black subdials are shaped to evoke the distinctive patches around the animal's eyes. A small nose and mouth at 6 o'clock complete the face.
The hour and minute hands are shaped like bamboo leaves, referencing one of the panda's favourite foods. Even the chronograph pushers have been incorporated into the concept, doubling as the panda's ears.
The tachymeter scale has also received a playful makeover. Seiko calls it the SASAMETER, a reference to sasa, a Japanese term for bamboo leaves. It measures speeds of up to 30 km/h, which Seiko gives as the theoretical maximum running speed of a panda.
Turn the watch over and the theme continues. The caseback depicts the panda from behind and features a raised, three-dimensional tail, while the leather strap includes suede-like sections designed to evoke the texture of fur.
The HHK001 follows the traditional black-and-white panda palette and is limited to 3,000 pieces worldwide. The HHK002 takes a more unusual route with a pink colour scheme inspired by a newborn panda and is limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide. Both come in specially designed presentation boxes.
The Pandagraph will go on sale from November 7, 2026, through Seiko Boutiques and selected retailers. The European price is €590. Both models use Seiko's Caliber 8T61 quartz chronograph movement and feature 43mm stainless-steel cases.
