Omega x Swatch Just Launched A New Limited-Edition MoonSwatch Made With 18 Carat Gold

When the OMEGA x Swatch MoonSwatch launched in 2022, it became one of the biggest success stories in modern watchmaking. It brought the design language of the iconic Speedmaster to an entirely new audience, sparked queues outside boutiques across the world and proved that luxury collaborations could still surprise collectors. Now, the partnership has unveiled its most exclusive MoonSwatch yet: the Mission to the Moon 1969. 

Created as a tribute to the legendary 1969 gold OMEGA Speedmaster ; released to celebrate the success of the Apollo 11 mission , the new model also commemorates the year humanity first set foot on the Moon. Limited to just 1,969 individually numbered pieces worldwide, it marks a significant shift for the collection by introducing genuine precious-metal components for the first time. 

The standout feature is OMEGA's proprietary 18K Moonshine Gold.  According to OMEGA, the gold itself has been produced by recycling vintage OMEGA spare parts dating back to 1969, creating a tangible connection between the watch and one of the brand's most celebrated eras. 

While the precious metal takes centre stage, the Mission to the Moon 1969 remains unmistakably a MoonSwatch. It retains the familiar 42mm Bioceramic case, quartz chronograph movement and asymmetrical Speedmaster-inspired profile that have defined the collection since its debut.  

A vertically satin-finished dial, black Bioceramic bezel with a gold-coloured tachymeter scale, gold bevelled indexes finished with black lacquer, and period-correct OMEGA logos and typography all draw inspiration from the celebrated 1969 gold Speedmaster. The result is a design that balances the playful identity of the MoonSwatch with the heritage of one of watchmaking’s most recognisable chronographs.  

OMEGA and Swatch have also adopted a different approach to the launch. Instead of the first-come, first-served releases that previously led to long queues outside Swatch boutiques, the Mission to the Moon 1969 is available through the Electronic Swatch Timepiece Application (ESTA). Successful applicants are then invited to purchase their individually numbered watch from a designated Swatch store, making the buying process more structured while preserving the exclusivity of the limited edition. 

More than simply another MoonSwatch colourway, the Mission to the Moon 1969 feels like a considered tribute to one of OMEGA's most significant moments in watchmaking history. By combining genuine 18K Moonshine Gold with design cues inspired by the original 1969 gold Speedmaster, OMEGA and Swatch have created a collector-focused edition that honours the past while pushing the MoonSwatch story in a more premium direction.
