Who says couture belongs only to fabric and not speed? That it exists only on the runway and not on the road? Look closer, and the worlds of high fashion and luxury automobiles have always shared a common language of sculpted forms, precision craftsmanship and emotional design.

Earlier this week, couturier Gaurav Gupta unveiled Light Song, his latest couture collection, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. Developed over nine months by more than 200 artisans across 6,000 hours of hand craftsmanship, the collection featured over 70 couture.

The evening also marked another first. As the Official Automobile Partner of the showcase, MG SELECT, the luxury brand channel of JSW MG Motor India, unveiled the MG M9 and MG Cyberster Couture Editions. Together, they become India's first couture-edition luxury vehicles, carrying the narrative of Light Song beyond the runway.

Both editions are envisioned by Gaurav Gupta and draw inspiration from his signature Serpent Infinity motif, a symbol of continuity, transformation and power. The motif is interpreted across the vehicles through intricate embroidery, tonal layering and hand-finished detailing, translating the visual language of haute couture into automotive design.

The collaboration builds on a creative partnership that began earlier this year at the opening of Gupta's menswear flagship in New Delhi, where an early interpretation of the Cyberster first hinted at the possibilities between couture and mobility.

For Light Song, that conversation evolved further. From the sculpted hood to the handcrafted interiors, the Serpent Infinity motif flows throughout both vehicles, creating shifting layers of depth and movement that respond to changing light much like couture garments do. Every detail reinforces the exclusivity of these collector editions while blurring the boundaries between fashion and automotive design.

Extending that narrative even further, the Cyberster also became part of the runway presentation itself, transforming from display piece to moving expression of the collection.

"We believe the future of luxury lies in creating experiences that people connect with emotionally. The MG M9 and Cyberster Couture Editions are a celebration of that belief. They bring together the artistry of couture to create vehicles that are as expressive as they are innovative," said Milind Shah, Head, MG SELECT, JSW MG Motor India. "They reflect our vision of building automobiles as enduring symbols of individuality, craftsmanship and modern luxury."

Gupta echoed the sentiment. "Every design begins with a vision of how people experience movement. With the MG M9 and Cyberster Couture Edition, we translated the craftsmanship and sculptural philosophy of couture into the world of luxury mobility. It represents a new benchmark where design, technology and artistry coexist, redefining what a premium automotive experience can be."

The limited Couture Editions of the MG M9 and MG Cyberster will each be produced in just 50 units and will be available exclusively through MG SELECT. Pre-reservations remain open until the price announcement on August 3, 2026, offering collectors the opportunity to secure one ahead of its official arrival.

With Light Song, and the couture editions it inspired, Gaurav Gupta and MG SELECT demonstrate that couture need not end at the edge of the runway. Here, craftsmanship finds another canvas, proving that luxury is not defined by the medium, but by the artistry with which it is expressed.
