Located at Quest Mall Bvlgari's fourth destination in India has landed itself inside a 115-square-metre boutique in Kolkata. The city shaped by art, architecture and craftsmanship now has become the latest setting for the Roman Maison's distinctive language of luxury. One can witness it all at the new Bvlgari store with audacious colour, sculptural forms and an unmistakable sense of Italian glamour in eastern city of India.
Following the opening at Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai, the opening latest boutique store of Bvlgari that opened on September 18, forms part of the Maison's wider ambition to deepen its presence in the country and connect with clients across Eastern India.
But that's not all to find at the new address. The Kolkata store goes beyond its retail capacity. Conceived as a dialogue between Rome and Kolkata, the boutique brings together Bvlgari's architectural codes with references to the cultural character of its new home.
Travertine portals recall Rome's monumental architecture, while sculptural travertine and onyx counters draw inspiration from Italian architect Carlo Scarpa. Fluted walls reinterpret the grandeur of ancient Roman columns, while curved showcases evoke the warmth of a Roman sunset. At the centre, a Serpenti chandelier by Venini, handcrafted in Murano glass with approximately 300 crystal wands, creates a dramatic focal point. Moreover, artwork by Andy Warhol adds another cultural layer, reflecting the artist’s celebrated relationship with Bvlgari.
The connection to Kolkata also becomes even more literal through a bespoke installation by Milan-based artisans Pictalab. Maps of Rome and Kolkata are brought together by a sinuous Serpenti form, with the Victoria Memorial rising from the Kolkata landscape. Hand-painted details, three-dimensional motifs and gold leaf give the work an artisanal richness.
The boutique offers Bvlgari’s jewellery, watches, accessories and luxury leather goods, with icons including Serpenti, Octo, B.zero1, Divas’ Dream, Bvlgari Bvlgari and Tubogas. India-exclusive creations, including the B.zero1 Kada Bracelet and Bvlgari Mangalsutra, further anchor the offering in the local market.
With its Kolkata debut, Bvlgari is extending its Roman universe into a city whose creative identity has been shaped by art, architecture and culture. The new boutique ultimately becomes a meeting point between two distinctive worlds: the timeless grandeur of Rome and the enduring artistic spirit of Kolkata.
