Are Sebastian Stan And Scarlett Johansson Confirmed For The Batman: Part II?

What are they playing then?

As the DC films take off, the Avengers actors are one step closer to having a reunion in Gotham City.

On January 6, it was announced that Sebastian Stan is reportedly in talks for joining Matt Reeves' Batman universe in the upcoming The Batman: Part II. If the deal goes through, the Thunderbolts* actor will be joining his Avengers costar Scarlett Johansson opposite Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. He has also appeared alongside Pattinson in the Southern crime thriller The Devil All The Time.

As the highly anticipated sequel to 2022’s The Batman goes into production, Barry Keoghan (another member of the MCU, if you count his role as Druig in Eternals) is reported to return as the Joker, while Colin Farrell will return as Oz Cobb, following the success of his spinoff series The Penguin. Other confirmed returns include Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon.

That leaves the question: what roles will Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson be playing? That detail is still under wraps for now, and before shooting begins in May this year, we might not have a lot for a definite answer.

Social media, as usual, is teeming with theories. Many think Sebastian Stan might be playing the Harvey Two-Face, the lawyer turned villain originally named Harvey Dent. Meanwhile, theories about Johansson’s role range all the way from Glinda Gold, Harvey Dent's wife, to Poison Ivy and Andrea Beaumont. Some think that she could be introduced as a love interest for Robert Pattinson, now that it's confirmed that Zoe Kravitz will not reprise her role as the Catwoman aka Selina Kyle.

The Batman: Part II, written by Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, is expected to release in theatres on October 2027.
