Here's How Glenn Maxwell Levelled Rohit Sharma's Record
For those who missed his electrifying knock in the MLC
The thing about cricket is that there’s always some exciting match or tournament happening in some part of the world. And if you’re not watching, then you’re truly missing out on the action.
Like it happened last night during the Major League Cricket match between Washington Freedom and Los Angeles Knight Riders.
For those of you who may not know, Major League Cricket is United States of America’s T20 cricket league, comprising six different teams. It may not be as robust as our own IPL but considering that cricket in the US is only now starting to spread its wings, don’t be surprised if MLC becomes one of the sporting world’s newest MVPs.
Especially if players like Glenn Maxwell will continue to provide enough and more entertainment through their on-field antics!

While India was sleeping (thanks to the difference in time zones), Maxwell was out setting new records and enabling his team, Washington Freedom, to set an enviable score.
Remember that iconic innings in the Cricket World Cup 2023 when Maxwell took Australia through to the semi-finals while playing on just one leg (literally!)? He thrashed Afghanistan’s bowling attack while battling major leg cramps, hitting 21 fours and 10 sixes in a match not many cricket lovers will ever forget.
That Maxwell was in full show again last night, and it was incredible to watch the talented player play like he usually does, especially since he’s had a not-so-great run of late.

His unbeaten 106* off only 49 balls comprised of 13 sixes and only a couple of boundaries, with a strike rate of 216.33. When Maxwell starts hitting, you just know he ain’t aiming for fours! So far in this year’s MLC, Maxwell, or The Big Show, as he’s been aptly dubbed, has scored 149 runs in three innings for his side, at an average of 149 and a strike rate of over 204. He is also the second-highest run-getter so far in the competition across teams.
Did we tell you that Maxwell was also captaining his side in the absence of Steve Smith in last night’s game?

It wasn’t just a night of hitting those sixes though—it was as much about Maxwell setting new records!
Thanks to his knock, Maxwell went past the 10,500 run-mark in T20s. He anyway has 178 wickets to his names in the format. Combined with the runs, he is now the first player in the world to complete a triple of 10,500 runs, 170-plus wickets and over five T20 hundreds.

His performance in last night’s game also allowed the Australian all-rounder to level his name with David Warner, Aaron Finch, Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler, becoming the player with the joint-fourth-highest centuries in T20 cricket.
In case you didn’t know, Warner, Finch, Rohit, Buttler and Australia's Michael Klinger all have eight T20 centuries, while the most centuries in this format are hit by West Indies icon Chris Gayle, who smashed 22 of them in 463 matches. He is followed by Pakistan's Babar Azam (11), South Africa's Rilee Rossouw and Virat Kohli (9 each).
Basically, it was raining records and Maxwell grabbed 'em all. As they say, there’s nothing more electrifying than a powerhouse hitter hit it out of the park.
