You’ve called the Delhi experience centre your “most personal project” to date. What made this one feel so intimate and meaningful for you?

This space reflects my personal journey in design; it's layered with emotion, experience, and a sense of home. Every element, from the materials to the flow of the space, carries a piece of my story. It’s the most complete expression of my aesthetic and what I want Gauri Khan Designs to stand for moving forward.

This isn’t a traditional store or showroom. How did you conceptualise the space as a curated home instead, and what do you hope clients take away from experiencing it?

I wanted to move beyond transactional spaces and create something immersive: a home you walk through, not a store you walk into. It’s designed to feel lived in, warm, and aspirational. I hope clients walk away feeling inspired to see their own homes as a canvas for self-expression.

You’ve been closely involved in shaping every detail of the space - from where the art hangs to how the lighting feels. Were there any decisions along the way that surprised you or carried unexpected emotional weight?

Lighting was one of the most emotional aspects while designing. How a space feels at golden hour, how shadows play against textures. It reminded me that design is as much about feeling as it is about form.

The centre is described as a place where clients can immerse themselves in what personalised luxury really means. How do you define that idea today?

Personalised luxury isn’t about excess, it's about intention. It’s about spaces that reflect who you are, how you live, and what brings you joy. In today’s world, true luxury lies in the details: craftsmanship, comfort, and a sense of calm.

You’ve spent 13 years in the design world. Looking back, how has your aesthetic evolved, from high-gloss finishes and bold contrasts to this more considered, tactile design language?

My early work was bold, glamourous, and high-impact and that still holds a place in my heart. But over time, I’ve leaned into nuance and depth. Today, I’m drawn to tactile textures, soft finishes, and a layered, more organic sensibility. It’s an evolution rooted in experience and emotion.

Looking ahead, do you see experience centres becoming the new norm in luxury design retail? What’s next for Gauri Khan Designs in this space?

Absolutely! Clients today want to experience, not just buy. The future of luxury lies in curation, storytelling, and emotional engagement. At Gauri Khan Designs, we’re exploring more cities and formats where design feels less like a transaction and more like a journey.

While we’re on the topic of crafting experiences, how can men elevate their personal spaces - especially bachelor pads - with simple yet high-impact design upgrades?

Focus on statement pieces - one great sofa, a standout rug, or a sculptural lamp can completely shift the energy of a room. Add texture, play with mood lighting, and don’t be afraid to incorporate a personal touch whether it’s a framed photograph or a piece of art that speaks to you.

What’s the biggest mistake you see men making when designing or decorating their homes?

Playing it too safe. There’s often a reluctance to embrace colour, texture, or even meaningful décor. A home should reflect your personality, not just functionality.

Many men lean towards minimalism or overly functional spaces. How can they introduce more personality, warmth, and sophistication without losing that masculine edge?

Layering is key so mix materials like leather, wood, and metal. Choose a cohesive palette, but introduce depth with textiles, art, or even books. Masculine spaces can be warm and expressive without compromising on strength or structure.

What’s one timeless piece every man should invest in for his home; be it furniture, art or lighting?

A well-crafted armchair. It’s a symbol of comfort, style, and intention. It anchors a room and tells a story of taste, pause, and presence.

I got to blend wellness, indulgence, and aesthetics in a way that felt fresh. We designed an entertaining corner that felt both warm and stylish ideal for hosting, snacking, and savouring everyday moments. (Smiles)
